Lauren Mayberry of the Chvrches releases her first solo song, “Are You Awake?”

Lauren Mayberry, the lead singer of Chvrches, has just unveiled her very first solo single titled “Are You Awake?”

The inspiration for this track blossomed during a songwriting session between Mayberry and Jesso Jr. Reflecting on her creative process, Lauren Mayberry shared, “I found myself contemplating themes of loneliness and homesickness, and as soon as Tobias began playing those chords, the lyrics and melody flowed effortlessly to me.” She went on to complete the song in partnership with her friend Matthew Koma, who deeply resonated with the emotions she aimed to convey.

In a surprising twist, Mayberry admitted, “I never really envisioned myself composing a piano-driven ballad, let alone an entire solo album. Life has truly thrown unexpected opportunities my way. I am eagerly anticipating this new chapter and can hardly wait for others to experience more of my musical journey.”

Lauren Mayberry had previously announced her intention to explore music beyond her role in Chvrches just last month. In a reflective Instagram post, she shared, “For the longest time, I couldn’t fathom venturing beyond the realm of Chvrches. Since the age of 15, my musical journey had always revolved around being part of a band.”

She continued, “I yearned to belong, to be part of the collective, and to fit in. But as I navigate through this phase of my life (your twenties really do pass by in a flash, folks), it has become evident that there are thoughts, words, and melodies within me that must be expressed independently.”

Despite her solo career endeavours, Mayberry remains committed to her work with Chvrches. An extended version of the band’s debut album, “The Bones of What You Believe,” is slated for release on October 13th via Glassnote Records. Additionally, the band surprised fans by sharing a previously unreleased track titled “Manhattan.”

As a final note, in August, Chvrches collaborated with Death Cab For Cutie on a remix of their latest single, “An Arrow in the Wall.” Lauren Mayberry’s journey into solo music is poised to captivate audiences on her upcoming solo tour, which will feature stops in the United States, Europe, and the United Kingdom.
