Reality TV personalities Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley are set to be released from prison earlier than expected. Their attorney, Jay Surgent, confirmed to Entertainment Weekly on Friday that Todd, aged 55, and his wife Julie, aged 50, have had their prison sentences reduced.
They were originally sentenced to a combined 19 years in prison back in November for charges related to bank fraud and tax evasion.
Surgent stated that Todd’s sentence has now been reduced to approximately 10 years, down from the initial 12, while Julie’s sentence has been shortened to about five years, down from seven.
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ online inmate search system, Todd is scheduled to be released from Federal Prison Camp Pensacola in Florida on January 22, 2033, and Julie will leave Federal Medical Center Lexington in Kentucky on October 19, 2028.
Surgent mentioned that the Chrisleys have exhibited exemplary behavior as inmates and have qualified for these sentence reductions under the First Step Act. He also noted that they might become eligible for further reductions when new sentencing guidelines come into effect in November.
The Chrisleys were found guilty in June 2022 of conspiring to defraud banks of over $30 million in fraudulent loans and faced several federal charges of tax evasion. Besides their prison sentences, they were both sentenced to 16 months of probation after their release and were ordered by the court to pay restitution.
The Chrisleys began serving their sentences in January and currently have an appeal pending in the 11th Circuit Court.
In the midst of these legal matters, it was announced last month that a new reality show featuring the Chrisley family is in development by Scout Productions. This yet-to-be-titled series will focus on the Chrisley children and Todd’s mother, Faye, as they navigate life while Todd and Julie are incarcerated.
