The ‘Final’ Quentin Tarantino movie will receive a $20 million California tax credit.

The State of California has recently announced a substantial $20.2 million subsidy for what is being referred to as Quentin Tarantino’s potentially “final” film, as confirmed by the state’s film commission on a Friday announcement.

This upcoming film has been the subject of much speculation, with rumours suggesting it will focus on the life of Pauline Kael. It is temporarily titled “The Movie Critic.” This project is one of 16 selected to receive state tax credits in the latest round of allocations.

California annually allocates $330 million in state subsidies to support the film and TV industry, aimed at keeping production within the state. For the purposes of its tax credit application, Quentin Tarantino’s film is simply identified as “#10,” denoting it as the director’s tenth and potentially last film, according to his previous statements.

The California Film Commission has also allocated $20 million to an untitled Netflix project and $20.7 million to a Sony film tentatively titled “Under My Skin,” rumoured to be a biopic of Frank Sinatra. Additionally, 13 independent films have been granted tax credits ranging from $646,000 to $2.5 million.

Film production worldwide has been significantly impacted by the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes, resulting in a slowdown in production. It is worth noting that the tax credits announced on Friday will only be disbursed once the respective productions are completed.

Colleen Bell, the executive director of the film commission, commented on the situation, stating, “While production is currently at a standstill, today’s news about projects in our tax credit program signals a much-awaited resurgence in California-based production once the strikes are resolved.”

It is worth noting that Quentin Tarantino’s previous film, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” also received $18 million in California tax credits.
